SWEDISH MASSAGE is a gentle, rhythmic massage administered to relax soft body tissue and facilitate healing. It is lighter in touch than other forms of massage and includes long flowing strokes, kneading, and friction techniques on more superficial layers of the muscles. It can loosen stiff joints, reduce muscle tension, and help clear nasal or chest congestion. Swedish massage contributes to overall well-being and is widely prescribed by physicians to enhance treatment for insomnia, anxiety, and depression.

DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep-tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. This type of massage also breaks down scar tissue, known as restrictive fascia (pronounced, fasha). Clients are usually instructed to drink plenty of water for a couple of days following the massage to help eliminate the released toxins.

THAI MASSAGE looks like a cross between acupressure, yoga, and Zen shiatsu and is inspired by Buddhist teachings. The actual massage consists of a technique that uses slow, rhythmic compressions and stretches along the body’s energy lines, also called Sen in Thai. The therapist may get onto the table to assist in deep stretches and therapeutic movement of legs, hips, back and shoulders. Usually, this work is done clothed but can be added to any massage with proper draping. Especially wonderful for tight hips and lower back.

SHIATSU is a form of massage that originated in Japan and traditional Chinese medicine that focuses on healing and unblocking the energy channels of the body. Pressure with thumbs, hands, elbows, knees or feet is applied to specific points. This form of massage also focuses on rotating and stretching limbs and joints and is great for lower back, hip, and leg stiffness. The nervous and immune systems are both stimulated by applying pressure to the meridians, providing relief for both body and mind. Shiatsu also restores the circulatory system, improving blood flow throughout the body.
